Subject: Grade 6 field trip to Cedar Valley Farm

Hello Mr. Feeley,

I received the notice about the Grade 6 field trip to Cedar Valley Farm on November 14th and had a few questions before I sign the permission form for my son, Idris. The notice mentions a $22 fee but does not say what it covers, and I want to know whether it includes lunch or if I need to pack one.

I also noticed the notice says students should wear "weather-appropriate outdoor clothing," but Idris has a mild allergy to hay and straw, and I am not sure whether the farm activities will involve close contact with either. Is there an alternative activity available for students with allergies, or would he need to stay behind at school that day?

Finally, the notice says permission forms are due by November 7th, but I will be travelling for work until November 8th. Would a form submitted one day late still be accepted, given the circumstances?

Thank you for your help,

Halima Warsame

Dear Ms. Warsame,

Thank you for reaching out. The $22 fee covers the bus rental and farm admission only; lunch is not included, so please pack a lunch for Idris as you would for a regular school day.

Regarding the hay and straw allergy, the farm does have a barn tour that involves close contact with hay bales during a hayride portion of the visit. However, the farm offers an alternative nature-trail activity for students who cannot participate in the barn tour, supervised by one of our chaperones, so Idris would not need to stay behind at school. I will note his allergy and make sure he is assigned to the nature-trail group instead.

As for the form, November 7th is the deadline we give to the farm for a final headcount, but we can accept forms up to November 8th if a parent contacts us in advance, as you have done. Please send the signed form with Idris on the morning of the 8th, or email me a scanned copy before then if that is easier.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Grant Feeley
