Task format at a glance
Preparation time: 30 seconds. Speaking time: 90 seconds. Your response is recorded by the computer and, on the real test, scored later by trained CELPIP raters.
- Example prompt: Your friend has been offered a job in another city but is worried about leaving family behind. Give your friend advice.
A simple plan for your answer
This structure is our independent advice, not an official CELPIP template:
- Open by naming the person and the situation in one sentence.
- Give two or three pieces of advice, each with a reason.
- Add a concrete example or a first step they can take this week.
- Close with an encouraging summary.
Most common mistake
Listing many ideas with no reasons. Ninety seconds is long enough to develop two or three ideas properly.
Practise with a timer so you get used to finishing your last sentence before the time runs out — an answer that stops mid-sentence sounds unfinished.
