Task format at a glance
Preparation time: 60 seconds. Speaking time: 60 seconds. Your response is recorded by the computer and, on the real test, scored later by trained CELPIP raters.
- Example prompt: Choose between two used cars for the family and persuade your partner, who prefers the other car.
A simple plan for your answer
This structure is our independent advice, not an official CELPIP template:
- State your choice clearly in the first sentence.
- Compare the two options on two or three criteria such as cost, time and convenience.
- Answer the other person's likely objection.
- End with a polite, persuasive conclusion.
Most common mistake
Only praising your option without actually comparing it with the other one.
Practise with a timer so you get used to finishing your last sentence before the time runs out — an answer that stops mid-sentence sounds unfinished.
