CELPIP was built around the Canadian Language Benchmarks, which makes conversion simple: for levels 4 to 9, your CELPIP level is your CLB level. Levels 10, 11 and 12 all count as CLB 10.
Immigration programs set language minimums in CLB terms so that results from different designated tests can be compared. Each skill is checked separately, so one weak skill can block an application even if the others are high.
Reading your results
If your report shows Listening 9, Reading 8, Writing 7, Speaking 9, your CLB levels are 9, 8, 7 and 9. Your lowest skill — here Writing — is often the one that limits your eligibility or points.
Plan around your lowest skill
Our advice: once you know your practice estimates, spend most of your preparation on the lowest skill. Raising it by one level usually matters more than raising a strong skill further.
