CELPIP Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions

In Writing Task 2 you read a survey with two options, choose one, and explain your choice in 150–200 words in about 26 minutes. There is no right option — the score depends on how clearly and convincingly you support it.

Format

Time: about 26 minutes. Length: 150–200 words. Content: choose Option A or Option B and give reasons.

A reliable structure (our advice)

  • Introduction: state your choice in the first sentence.
  • Reason 1 with a specific example.
  • Reason 2 with a specific example.
  • Optional: briefly acknowledge the other option.
  • Conclusion restating your choice.

Pick the easier option

Spend the first two minutes choosing the option you can support with the most concrete examples, even if it isn't your personal favourite. Specific details score better than general statements.
