How to Improve Your CELPIP Writing Score

Most CELPIP writers improve not by learning new grammar, but by covering the task completely, adding specific details and removing small errors. These steps are our independent advice.

Write under time

Practise with the real 27- and 26-minute limits. Many learners can write well with unlimited time; the test rewards writing well quickly.

Compare with a model answer

After each task, compare your response with the model: count the specific details, check how each paragraph opens, and note one phrase you could reuse.

Use a proofreading checklist

  • Articles: a / an / the
  • Verb tense consistency
  • Singular vs plural
  • Spelling of common words
  • Every task point answered

Control tone

Mixing formal and informal language in one email is a frequent problem. Decide the tone before you write and keep it from greeting to sign-off.

Frequently asked questions

Do longer answers score higher?

Not beyond the 150–200 word guideline; quality matters more.

Should I practise typing?

Yes. The test is typed, so typing speed affects how much time you have to plan and proofread.

Is the spell checker on?

Practise without one; check the official site for test-day details.
